iOS 17's StandBy mode turns your iPhone into an ambient smart display. Simply place your iPhone horizontally on a MagSafe charger to activate it.
Turning on StandBy Mode
By default, StandBy mode is enabled in iOS 17 (public beta version). If not, go to Settings > StandBy and toggle the activation switch.
Customizing StandBy Mode
Swipe sideways to cycle between three panels - interactive widgets, photo clock, and a larger clock. Customize widgets and choose your favorite photos.
Docking Your iPhone
Use any compatible charger, like MagSafe or Qi-enabled wireless pads, to activate StandBy mode when the iPhone is docked horizontally.
Notifications and Alerts
Enable Show Notifications in StandBy settings to view incoming messages and alerts when your iPhone is docked.
Night Mode and Notifications
Turn on Night Mode to adjust color tint in darker environments. Critical notifications can be displayed in StandBy mode, and you can expand them with a tap.
MagSafe Advantage
With a MagSafe-certified charging dock, your iPhone can automatically display the StandBy mode configuration set for each location.
While iOS 17 officially launches in the fall, you can experience StandBy mode early by joining the public beta software.
